Spiritual ecommerce marketing case study - Studio Vaidik certified gemstones and Rudraksha scaled by Avikosh Digital

A spiritual ecommerce marketing case study covering the online launch of Studio Vaidik on Shopify — certified gemstones, Rudraksha and Yantras — and a 3 to 4.5X monthly return on ad spend in a category whose buyers were not yet shopping online.

Project Summary

Client Overview:

Studio Vaidik — previously trading as Vaidik Online — sells authenticated Vedic and spiritual products: lab-certified gemstone rings in 925 silver (Blue Sapphire, Yellow Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby, Pearl), natural Rudraksha beads and malas, Yantras, Kawach, Shankh, healing crystals and idols. It is an established name with a legacy built offline over generations.

In January 2024 the brand decided to sell online for the first time. Avikosh Digital was brought in at launch to build paid acquisition on Meta and Google for a brand new Shopify store, and held a monthly return on ad spend of three to four and a half times across a six-month launch engagement.

The Challenge

  • The buyers were not online yet: In early 2024 this category was still overwhelmingly offline. Gemstones and Rudraksha are bought on the recommendation of an astrologer or a family jeweller, in person, after handling the stone. There was no established habit of buying a ₹20,000 Neelam from a website.
  • Authenticity is the entire purchase decision: The category has a serious counterfeit problem, and buyers know it. Every objection reduces to one question — how do I know this is real? A brand with generations of offline trust had none of that transferring to a new domain.
  • Ad platforms restrict this category: Google and Meta both limit claims around astrology, fate and supernatural outcomes. The mystical promise that sells offline cannot be used in the ad copy, so the advertising has to be built on something else entirely.
  • A prescriptive, not exploratory, purchase: Customers do not browse for “a ring”. They have been told to wear a specific stone, of a specific weight, on a specific finger. Generic jewellery campaigns miss that intent completely.

What We Did

  • Advertised certification, not prophecy: Every ad led on lab certification, 925 silver hallmarking and energisation — verifiable product facts. That solved the trust objection and kept the account compliant with platform policy at the same time. The single most important decision in the project.
  • Built campaigns around the stone, not the category: Structure followed how people actually search — Pukhraj, Neelam, Panna, Manik, 5 mukhi Rudraksha, 1 mukhi Rudraksha — because someone searching a specific stone by name has already been told what to buy.
  • Ran the funnel in Hindi and English: A large share of this audience researches and buys in Hindi. The store supports both languages and so did the advertising.
  • Used COD to de-risk a first online purchase: Partial cash on delivery removed the largest barrier for a buyer who had never bought a high-value spiritual product on the internet.
  • Instagram for the visual proof: Certificates, silver stamps, stone clarity and packaging shown in detail — giving a remote buyer the closest thing to holding the piece.

The Results

  • A 3 to 4.5X return on ad spend, month on month held across the full six-month engagement.
  • A profitable online channel built from zero — new store, no pixel history, no existing online audience.
  • Proved the category will transact online which was the real question at the start, and the finding that mattered most to the brand.
  • Product-level demand mapped across gemstones, Rudraksha and Yantras, giving the brand data on what actually sells online rather than assumptions.

How the Engagement Ended

The brief was a six-month launch engagement. At the end of it, Studio Vaidik chose to pause paid marketing for a period. We handed over the account structure, the product-level performance data and the creative learnings.

We include that because it is the honest shape of the project. The objective was to establish whether an offline-first spiritual products brand could sell profitably online, and to build the channel if it could. Both were achieved inside six months.

Key Takeaways

  • When you cannot advertise the emotional promise, sell the proof: Platform restrictions forced the creative onto certification and craftsmanship — and that turned out to convert better than the mystical angle would have, because authenticity was the real objection all along.
  • “Our customers are not online” is usually untested, not untrue: The buyers existed. What was missing was a reason to trust a website with a purchase they had only ever made in person.
  • Match the campaign to how the customer was told to buy: In a prescriptive category, structuring by specific product — the exact stone, the exact mukhi — beats any demographic or interest audience.

Note

Why it works: Google and Meta restrict claims about astrology and fate, so the mystical promise that sells offline could not be used at all. Advertising lab certification and 925 silver hallmarking instead solved the real objection - authenticity - and kept the account compliant. The constraint produced the better creative.
